The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for strong winds, rough seas and rising sea waves.
This notification has been issued with effect from 27 am tomorrow (7) for deep and shallow sea areas from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
In the sea areas off the coast extending from Beruwala to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota the wind speed may increase up to 60-70 kmph at times.
The Meteorological Department said that the sea areas could be very rough at times.
The fishing and naval community as well as the people living along the coast are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department states that heavy showers will occur in several parts of the island today.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology said that heavy showers of more than 100 mm are expected in some parts of the country.
Showers or thundershowers at a few places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night.
The people are requested to take necessary measures to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning along with thunder showers.
The Meteorological Department warns that wind speeds could increase up to 50 kmph at times in the western slopes of the Central Hills, North North Central and North Western Provinces and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee Districts.
