Eggs and chicken prices also go up

Retailers say that the retail price of an egg has risen to between Rs. 23 and 25 due to the increase in the wholesale price of eggs.

An official of the All Ceylon Egg Traders Association stated that a white egg was sold at wholesale prices for 22 rupees and a red egg for 23 rupees yesterday.

An egg producer who supplies bulk eggs to the Colombo area says that an egg can be given for Rs. 21 each.

Meanwhile, consumers say that the price of chicken has also gone up after the removal of the chicken price drink.

It is reported that a kilo of chicken which was under the control price of 460 rupees is now being sold at a price of between 660 and 710 rupees in some areas.
