The Minuwangoda Police have launched an investigation into whether the death of a 22-year-old girl who set herself on fire over a love affair was a suicide or a homicide. T. Kalpani Dilhara Dulani has died at the Gampaha General Hospital after being found burning in a garage room near her house on the 17th at noon.
Minuwangoda Acting Magistrate Niroshika Liyanarachchi is conducting the inspection under the guidance of Minuwangoda Police Sergeant Sudath Nandasiri.
The mother of the deceased Achala Padmini Perera has given a statement to the Minuwangoda Police stating that Dilhara's daughter had a love affair with a 28 year old resident of Nawala and that Dilhara's boyfriend had come to celebrate Dilhara's brother's birthday on the 17th.
Investigations revealed that Dilhara had received a call on her mobile phone from a stranger after the birthday party and that a dispute had arisen between the deceased Dilhara and her boyfriend. The police stated that.
Shortly after her boyfriend came out of the garage, she heard the screams of the victim and her mother and others put out the fire. The girl had died after being admitted to hospital.
