“The greatest tragedy that befell the farmer was during the time of Maithripala Sirisena. He slashed the fertilizer subsidy. The Paddy Marketing Board has been inactivated, ”said Roshan Ranasinghe, Minister of State for Provincial Councils and Local Government.
Minister of State Roshan Ranasinghe was speaking at a media briefing held after the inauguration of the new Board of Directors of the Sri Lanka Institute of Local Government yesterday (11th).
"Whether he represents the government or the opposition as a mature politician. Conspiracies are coming out. These should speak from within. As a part of a government, he gives such statements to the media without speaking at group meetings.
The tragedy of agriculture was caused by a good government. When he was President. He slashed the fertilizer subsidy given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, even though the people did not have enough water to cultivate paddy during his tenure. Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa said that by 2015 there was no space in the warehouses and paddy was stored at the airport.
The former President should take the responsibility of inactivating the Paddy Marketing Board.
Therefore, the greatest tragedy that befell the farmer was during the time of Maithripala Sirisena. The President has taken a good decision to develop organic farming. Save future generations. We made a good decision to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers as much as possible. If any damage is done to the farmer, we as a government hope to pay for it. ”
