Cabinet decides not to run out of fuel next year

Cabinet approval has been granted to award long term contracts to Singapore's Vitol Asia Pvt. Ltd. for the importation of petrol and diesel within the next eight months of next year.

The contract is for the period from January 2022, 1 to August 2022, 31.

Accordingly, the contract has been awarded to import 0.05 barrels of diesel sulfur content of 1,137,500 and 0.001 barrels of diesel with a maximum sulfur content of 262,500 each. During the same period, approval was granted to the company to import 92 barrels of 1,341,000 petrol and 95 barrels of 459,000 petrol.

Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Energy, has approved the award of the contract to the relevant company on the recommendation of the Special Standing Committee on Procurement.

"Currently there is a fear among the people about a fuel shortage. The government responsibly declares that there is no such shortage at present and that there will be no shortage in the future. ” Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana stated this at a media briefing held today (26).
