President joins commemoration of victims of 9/11 attacks

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has attended a special commemoration at the Manhattan Memorial in the United States to mark the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Washington and New York.

The terrorist attacks took place on September 2001, 11, targeting the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon, the U.S. military headquarters in Washington. 

The event was jointly organized by the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office and the September 11 Commemorative Museum, the Presidential Media Unit said in a statement.

Other Heads of State and Representatives who are in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly are also in attendance.
