Fake phone call to OIC as CID director asking for release of suspect

A 47-year-old man has been remanded till November 2 after being produced before court for posing as a fake CID director who pretended to be a criminal forcing the Payagala OIC to release a suspect involved in an attack on a personal dispute between two parties in the Wadugoda area in Payagala.

According to the Payagala OIC, the incident took place a few days ago in a personal dispute between two parties in the Wadugoda area in the Payagala Police Division.

"This is what the Director of the CID, Chandra Jayawardena, is saying. The person who is trying to arrest him in connection with the Payagala attack should be released immediately. Otherwise, he will be in trouble. The call was disconnected after the OIC told the OIC to 'take a call from the Sir Office phone' when the man posing as the CID Director told the police.

The OIC has launched an investigation into the telephone message he received with an official note.

Meanwhile, the suspect involved in the attack has been arrested and the victim has been summoned to the police station and the complaint is being investigated. At the same time, all the facts were revealed during the police arrest operation and the OIC said that the father of the suspect involved in the attack had pretended to be the Director of the CID.

The Payagala OIC has been remanded till November 2 after being produced before the Kalutara Magistrate's Court on charges of criminally impersonating another person.
